Stybeck Farm. Thirlmere Campsite Review

Would we go back?

Last minute booking in The Lakes can be tricky, but we were excited to find a new campsite (to us) in Thirlmere. Being a fairly central location, we felt this would be a great location for several hikes we had planned.

We prefer the rugged sites as opposed to the more ‘manicured’ Caravan Club style, so this one looked to be right up our street.

The reviews were good, and we were not disappointed. Set back from the road, the traffic noise was minimal. The welcome was lovely- Louise, the host was so friendly, chatty, funny and helpful. This was a working farm and we knew in advance to expect farm noise, but this didn’t bother us, in fact- we liked it. (especially the donkey!)

With the choice of any plot we liked, great views, and electric hook up, the price was reasonable. It was a fantastic location for multiple mountains, including Helvellyn and yet so quiet.

This amazing hike, together with amazing cloud inversion (Clough Head, and the Dodds) was done without moving the van at all, (Sticks Pass is right behind the farm) and this was a major plus for us, as we really dislike the anxiety of trying to find a carpark space near the hikes we want.

The showers and loos were basic and clean, and full water, chemical point and grey waste faciliies are available.

We would definitely return, especially as there are more via Sticks Pass we have yet to complete, and this is the perfect location.
