‘Friluftsliv’ Noun. Norwegian. Meaning: Free Air Living. The Open Air Life. Connect with Nature

Have you ever noticed how you can be stuck in your own head, ruminating on life’s troubles, but as soon as you get into the fresh air, everything looks better?
Being in the mountains is quite literally a demonstration of different perspective; the height, the air, the views and the rhythmic pounding of the feet is inherently relaxing. Deep breathing changes the chemicals in your brain and thinking patterns change. The reassuring stability, strength and permanence of the mountains hearten and inspire, consoling and comforting in one.
The ‘Friluftsliv’ way of life-beneficial for our mental and physical health-the free air, the open air life and connecting with nature. For me, it feels like a ‘need’, not a ‘want’, as if it is in my DNA, in my very being, to get back to my genetic nomadic roots. The connection with them is real. A spiritual and magical pull.
