8 signs you know you have the Mountain Bug!

Being in the mountains gets in your blood. It’s a passion. You’ve been a few times and enjoyed it, and then realise not only have you bought a shed-load of kit, but it’s also taking a lot of your thought bandwidth!

If any of these are familiar to you, you know it’s your happy place, and no amount of city life will ever compensate.

  • 1) You know that inner peace is found there like nowhere else.
    • It is almost magical. It has healing powers and only those who have felt it, know that.
  • 2) You’re constantly looking at kit on line.
    • Anything which might make the next trip even better!
  • 3) You avidly consume blogs, you tubers and books about the mountains, and crave it when you’re not there.
    • And the pang to be there again is real!
  • 4) You have no interest in browsing the local towns and cities (Unless they have an outdoor shop!)
    • You find towns are boring!! Too many people and too much concrete!
  • 5) You have experienced every weather possible. Even when the forecast is good, you know to expect the worst, and you’ve experienced it!!
    • You have known sunburn, windburn and lashing rain, but still love it!
  • 6) You love your boots, and I mean LOVE!
    • You have several pairs and look after them better than you own child!
  • 7) You know in detail, how many Wainwrights and Munroes you’ve done
    • You have the app to tick them off, and a spreadsheet!
  • 8) You want to share it with people, but you don’t want to meet anyone on them!
    • Share the love but also feel jealously protective of the solitude!
  • 9) Your wardrobe is about 5% smart gear, and 95% hiking gear
    • If you’re invited to a swanky night out, you feel a panic attack coming on!
  • 10) You re-live the euphoria of the last one, but always thinking about the next.
    • There is simply nothing like the peaceful wilderness feeling, with nothing manmade around you; that need to be away from the crowds is seductive and needs to be on repeat!

Can you relate? Can you add to the list?
