Here is the 2nd part of our 10 day itinerary. See part 1 for the northern islands.

  • Day 6 Itinerary (Harris and Berneray)
    • Quick drive to Luskentyre Beach via the gorgeous cake box. Road quite busy, but stunning views. Some community roadside camp spots here but need to prebook.
    • Drive to Leverburgh ferry via the famous Golden Road. A lovely change in the scenery. More mountainous with rugged coast views. Quiet, beautiful and a seal viewing spot.
    • While waiting for the ferry- a quick top up again at the Leverburgh Community shop. Fill up with water, petrol etc here too.
    • Take the gorgeous ferry to Berneray (need to prebook). 2 Eagles seen on the rocks en route.
    • We stayed at East Beach Berneray (£10 honesty box). Quite a lot of space. Stunning views over mountains and gorgeous sea.
  • Day 7 Itinerary (Berneray and North Uist)
    • Being a Sunday, we made sure that we had filled up with provisions as most shops are shut.
    • Visit West Beach. Deserted and beautiful. Some walks here if desired.
    • Visit Clachan Sands. Golden Eagle spotted here
    • RSPB Reserve. Food and toilets available. Great walk round the peninsula. Corncrakes here. White Tailed Eagle seen on the drive up.
    • Moorcroft Campsite. Great facilities. Lovely site. Wild and windy. Lovely owner.
  • Day 8 Itinerary (North Uist and South Uist)
    • Top up provisions at nearby community shop.
    • Hike up Ruabhal, Benbecula. Great views. Landscape completely different again. Hen Harrier seen and this is on the islands Birds of Prey route.
    • Drive to South Uist via An Carra Standing Stone and Cladh Hallan Round Houses.
    • Kilbride Campsite. Busy, with facilities. Cafe on site.
  • Day 9 itinerary (South Uist, Eriskay and Barra)
    • Drive to Eriskay, Perfect parking spot right next to Prince Charles Beach, and next to the ferry. Walks options from there. As the weather was beautiful we walked and then stayed for the day, enjoying the peace, beauty and tranquility.
    • Ferry to Barra (Need to prebook). Lots of seals en route, basking on the rocks.
    • Wavecrest campsite. Amazing welcome, sunsets and views.
  • Day 10 itinerary (Barra and Vatersay)
    • Visit the Vatersay beaches. Famous beaches, several walk options, see the famous gate. Do not miss the fantastic cakes in the Community Centre.
    • Visit the Catalina plane wreck
    • Back to Barra. Cleat Beach- at low tide see the cave (check tides), and enjoy the Atlantic wild sea.
    • Barra Airport- a must see. Visit the stunning deserted beach behind the airport while you wait for the aeroplanes, which famously land on the sand. Check times before you go.
  • Day 11
    • Early ferry from Castlebay to Oban
